On my Hotpoint WF840 I have an F05 code. What does it mean?

About halfway through a cycle my Hotpoint WF840 stopped and flashed an F11 code. I powered off then back on again and the cycle restarted. After about 10 mins it stopped again and flashed an F05 code. What is wrong with it?

Cleaned the drain pump and it operated fine after.

F05 - Error code checked grey pipe and the pump, removed some toy coins from the pump and now the washing machine is full working. This took approximately 1.5 hours to repair with only basic understanding and a Phillips screw driver.

Drained the machine and gunky stuff came out with water then put it on a spin and it started to empty the rest. Thanks guys

fo5 means the grey pipe at the back is blocked :)

Thanks Jimb - just had the same problem on our hotpoint WMF740. Garage location, and we've just had a thaw after the freezing -16oC weather of the last 2 weeks! Turned out to be frozen water in the waste pipes.

This is a new machine after we had to replace our previous hotpoint machine after last year's cold weather following the water in the solenoid intake valves freezing and when it defrosted the valves had split and water ruined the motherboard (which I have to say was very conveniently located in the bottom of the washing machine casing - water is subject to gravity hotpoint!!). Needless to say we've been very careful this year -pumping out water and taking off the intake when finished and not using the machine when water in a dish on top of the machine is frozen (which means I've been without a usable washing machine for the last week and a half - thank goodness for mother-in-laws who live nearby!!

Thanks to Steve B (January 2010) on Hoptpoint Ultima
Same cause:

In winter condition if waste outlet pipe freezes F-05 is displayed. Pipe tends to freeze where waste water lies from previous wash, Garage location!

I have a hotpoint HVF344 and had a similar problem of an F05 code popping up near the ned of a wash cycle. Simply cleaned out the filter at the front of the machine and found a battery, coins and curtain clips. Was difficult to open the filter at first because there was debry stopping it unscrewing, but just kept rocking the machine and eventually it opened. Works perfectly now after a 5minute job and no cost at all.

Found this thread and am hoping its a saviour! Our machine is just 2 months out of its guarantee and we've just spent 40 minutes manually emptying the machine out of the hole at the front onto the kitchen floor! Nightmare! We will be cleaning out the bits and bobs mentioned here tomorrow!

What happens to people who don't have internet access? Error codes should be in the manual!

emptied out my water pump filter of coins and a couple of small hair clips after it said fo5 on my machine and had stopped draining the water,,works fine now.... my filter was at the front bottom right of the machine, take panel off, 3" cap unscrewed cleaned and back on.....easy as that!!!! 10 mins work...no cost.........nice!!!!

Water Frozen in the outlet pipe (Unblocked it) ? JOB DONE

Steve B, January 2010
Had an F05 code on my Hotpoint and found some clothes stuck in the outlet bit after the pump. This is what I would refer to as the filter. After that things were fine again...

I had the same on a wt960
undone 2 screws on the back
popped the pump off you have to push little lock pin in gently and move forward place screw driver to the side of plastic clamp and ease off
not much in pump so removed pressure pipe (connected to side of rubber with jubilee clip)
and this had some rubbish so removed and all is good

My wife had fo5 come up on lcd , i cleaned out the filter and pump ,also i found the presure pipe blocked as well, this comes out of the side of the filter rubber, all can be done from the back or lean the machine back and do from the bottom. work fine now

I have an Hotpoint Ultima WF840. It also had F-05 on it. We took off the back panel and disconnected the hose (plastic clip was a pain but came off after about 10 mins of waggling it). Took out the pump, cleared it and some debris was in pump and filter under drum (including toe end of a pair of tights, a bra wire in pieces, the fastening section off a bra and some curtain hooks, only gutted there was no money ha ha). Turned the blades inside pump which still clicked but put together again and set away. Drained ok this time but still made buzzing and clicking sounds.
So we had to replace the pump (we were lucky, next door's hotpoint had busted electrics and they'd bought new rather than fix so we used their pump as was in perfect working order, but they are cheap enough from an independant retailer and very easy to replace).
Its now all working perfectly, and just as silent as it was on first purchase.
After all the panics about paying for repair or taking apart, it was very eays and all my washing done again.
Hope this helps anyone who needs it!

Apparently it means the pressure button is jammed. However, we empitied it out manually then giv it a good bang and it worked.

Mart the machine, October 2007
just got this error and rang hotpoint and was told it means the pump is blocked or the pressure switch is jammed and of course an engineer shold be called. Wouldn't it be helpful if these fault codes were published in the hand book?

Karl

I had the error message F05 and found that the pipes were blocked and after unblocking machine worked ok again hope this helps.

Caroline, June 2006
No Answer Karl - but here in April we have the same problem - did you find out what F05 meant?
