Heater has failed on a Rover 416?

Heater has failed. Fans working and engine temperature seem ok, but no heat. Noticed a nasty smell from blower just before failure. Car is a Rover 416 1995. I know they have a reputation but this is generally ok and well serviced.

you need to replace the heat resistor wire located behind the glove box - take out glove box and its next to the pollen filter undo 2 screws and its a thin wire element it costs about £18 from main dealer
