the immobiliser gradually stopped responding to the key, replaced batteries but no difference, tried spare key & that worked - but now, a few weeks later the spare key's not always working. I'm scared of getting stranded and SO resent paying £80 to the dealer for whatever it is they do to reset/replace. I've read it may be damp which could possibly be the problem, but I'm not convinced. Any suggestions hugely welcome -

Mine is an R reg Megane 1.4RT ...the problem was due to water in the infra-red receiver possibly due to condensation or from aerial hole... dried the receiver and is working fine now.. just price open the infra-red receiver and you will see what everyone is saying...thanx to all who contribute to these forums it saves a lot of money if one is patient and off course some of these problems might differ......so take your time

Hi Annie, we also have same model as you, had similar problem. The first time it happened we did find water inside infrared receiver (on ceiling just in front of sun roof) which had come from aerial hole. Drying this worked for about 1.5 years but then had same problem back, so purchased a new infrared receiver and plugged this in and alls been well since (about £30). No gauruntee this will work for you though, but good luck.
