vw passat loses power when going up hill?

vw passat v reg.1.9 tdi problem when going up hill you lose power and have to change down a gear and then it sometime takes off. what can be the problem as i have changed the fuel filter and air filter.

Hi i have vw passat 2002 tdi (di) red when i go up to hill 50mile i lose power somebady saying turbo problem somebady saying electrical problem please did somone have same problem let me know a bit what did u change ? Thanks

air mass meter conks out, loss of power, turn ignition off & it will reset itself only to go again when going up hill, needs replacing, don't bother with cheap ones they are not vwa parts and they (will) let you down

The air flow filter/air mass sensor needs to be cleaned or replaced,also check that there are no holes in the pipes leading into the filter. It seems to be a common enough problem with vw/audi...I have had to replace mine several times!

problem is probably in air flow measurment sistem known as hfm.......i allready had the same problem but first change air flow filter........it is know mistake at vw tdi.... :-)

I have replaced all spark plugs and now runs fine.....buy ngk.....If thats not solve problem your cat is clugged or bad.....got p0421 code by anychance?

There are two obvious things that spring to mind. The first. The exhaust system. Is it rotting at all. If there is a leak in the system, the proper exchange of gases cannot take place and compression is lost. Check all the seals on the exhaust while the car is running. Get someone to rev the engine while you check. The second: An air leak in the diesel fuel system. Check all the pipes from the pump/filter leading to the injectors. Wiggle them around. Listen and see if you can hear air being drawn in. Make sure the injectors are locked down tight onto the head
