how to fix lights on a vw golf mk 3?

when my mother in law has her lights on, and then switches her indicators on the rear lights start to flash as do her fog light switch starts to flash. something is wrong with her electrics but dont no what to look for. i think it might be moist in the electrics. she doesnt have money to go to the garage and someone has told her she needs a new car. can you tell me what you think and were i should look please.

Strange goings on like you describe are often down to something simple like a wire disconnected. Check inside the boot area for any possible connections to the rear light clusters that may have been disturbed. Has someone accessed the spare wheel or the storage compartments on either side and perhaps dislodged a connection? Check any earth connections as well, they are easier to access and therefore easier to disturb by mistake! I very much doubt it is anything serious. Good hunting.

usually caused by faulty earth connections on light unit assembly,clean all earth connection in the unit, AND the one that attaches to the vehicle body.
