Burning smell / radiator fan not working, / Renault clio R reg 1.4 Automati?

Could the burning smell coming from my engine area be due to my radiator fan not working. As I have just discovered it is not working but my heater gauge is not over heating as such. If so am i looking at an expensive job? In the last 6 months I have had Altinator, cam, pump fitted. Renault Clio 1.4 Automatic R reg

Many Thanks

Burning smell could be that due to overheating, you've blown a head gasket. if the motor isn't properly cooled you do damage to it even though it may seem fine. I suggest pull the header, replace the gasket and valve stem seals. and get that cooling system sorted out. It could mean a blocked thermostat or a broken radiator fan thermostat/switch.

Hi,

Could you tell me how you fixed your fan? I'm having the same problem.

The fan could be as simple as the temprature sensor in the radiator not working so the fan,s not working or the fan could be broken, the burning smell is unlikely to be due to the fan not working if the car,s not over heating.
Smell could be oil leak burning off on the exhaust or something stuck on the exhaust burning off.
