my zanussi washer/dryer does not heat up?

why is there no heat to either the washing cycle or the drying cycle of my zanussi zwd1680w..there is no error indicator displayed, but the minute indicator on the drying cycle counts down 1 minute every 20 seconds

heating for wash and dry are totally seperate elements.quick counting on the dryer side is usually down to a faulty sensor on the dryer duct or condensor tank.no heat on wash cycle is due to the element being open circuit (blown)!.
