I have a renault traffic 1.9 dci 2003 and the plowplug light keeps coming on and makes the engine go into safe mode what could be the cause of this problem ? Also on a very cold morning the van is struggling to start but runs just fine when the engine warms up, I suspect this is related to the above but im no mechanic.

engine management system has fault, mine had same, two choices - new management system or if you take it to a garage that specialises in foreign cars ( not main dealer) they can bypass the problem the only drawback is that you get slightly more smoke than usual from a diesel (this does not affect the mot) and the low end power is slightly less. total cost £95 plus vat
