hydrostatic transmission diagnostic?

I have a Murry / briggs 18hp 42 inch mower. 8 yrs old. The trans was slipping 2 yrs ago, I noticed the fluid was low, topped it off and it has been good for 2 yrs, however now any incline stalls forward progression and the hydro fluid is full. Does any one know if there is an internal filter on these?

Thank You Walt.
I will replace / check the belt & tention.

there is a good chance this is as simple as a worn out drive belt. if the mower pulls good on flat even turf it could very well be the belt is worn and slipping. it may or may not make any noise indicating the belt is slipping. it could also be that the idler pulley on the belt drive is in need of replacement or adjustment. both of these are much easier (and cheaper) than jumping into the transaxle.
