I just had this problem but it was coupled to the Service light aswell. I just checked the block connecters under the seats and...hey presto! all fixed.

Hi I had the same problem, its caused by loose wires underneath the front seats , these wires govern the seatbelts pre tensioners .In a two door car where the front seats are regularly moved backwards & forwards these wires sometime come loose , just check the black wires under the seats, wiggle them about and secure them with some tape once the light goes off

This is the connections under either the driver or passenger seat, on the bottom of the seat itself. A 'fiddle' with the units will give a temporary fix but ideally a permanent solution should be found.

Thanks for the guidance on this from others

Check the wire connections under the passanger seat especially in a three door as it moves about a lot, with back seat passangers sliding the seats forward and back.. Just call it a Granny and Children fault, they bang the seats about.

Many Thanks

This is a simple one, under the passenger seat are a load of wires just give them all a tighten up and make sure the connections are in.

I THINK YOU WILL FIND AS I DID THE WIRING IS FAULTY ON THIS MODEL,RENAULT BONDED THE WIRING TO RECTIFY MY PROBLEM.INSIST THEY SORT IT OUT FOR YOU

same problem with my renault scenic 2004.The problem is that the car was involved in light accident, the airbag wasn't out but the computer for airbag send info.to the airbag and this stayed on.You should replace the computer witch is around 150 pounds itself without fixing on.

the way that i would go about it is first look under the passenger seat and check the wires and connections ,if they look ok just disconnect them and reconnect please make sure the ignition is off when doing this, once you have done that ,turn the ignition on and see if the airbag light goes out,if not turn ignition off and do the same to the drivers seat, turn ignition on and see if the fault has gone, if not turn the ignition off and where your seat belt clicks into pull the trim away so you can see the hog connector on top of the pretensioner make sure they are pushed on correctly, then turn ignition on again if the fault is still present you will need to have it looked at ,they will be able to diagnose the fault with there computer.
