How can I remove lint from My Whirlpool LSC8244EQ1 washer tub?

My Whirlpool LSC8244EQ1 two-speed automatic clothes washer suddenly began getting large chunks of lint and cat hair in its tub. Up to now the washer has always been quite good at removing lint. Is there a lint filter that might not be backwashing, or do lint filters commonly go bad in a 9-year old Whirlpool clothes washer?

I'm not familiar with Whirlpool model numbers. If this is a direct drive machine it may have a filter in the center of the agitator. If it does not, it's between the inner and outer tubs. You have to remove the cabinet, pull the agitator and inner tub. Not an easy job. All can be done with standard tools except the inner tub has a large nut you need a special wrench to remove. Google the web and you will find lots of help on this. The older belt drive machines have various kinds of lint filters. Do a search for your model number and you may find some help
