Advent 4489 wont back up to memory stick?

my new Advent 4489 wont back up to memory stick as it tells you in the instructions it gets part way to the bit that says its formatting the 2 gig stick then stops and says its not compatible its the second memory stick I have tried and also the second netbook as the 1st one locked up permanently when I did this and PC world said it was not fixable and gave me another

I followed Mike's suggestion but with one extra - I slotted a 4Gb SD Card in the SD card reader in addition to the 4Gb USB Memory Stick. At about the 5th attempt backup to the USB stick actually worked and ran to completion.
I contacted Currys support and they admitted there was a problem - their solution is to send out a Recovery CD.

I have tried the suggestion that mike gave with two 4gb memory sticks. Although going through the launch recovery did make things a bit easier I am still no further forward - do you think the problems is with the formatting of the storage device or the netbook

I have got the same problem and tried 2 memory sticks but still won't create the back up.
If you try starting launch recovery can this wipe the system by formatting the hard drive?

mine wont create the backup either (we have two) when i eventually get it to format the memory stick, it just stops writing to the stick after about 220mb, I know this because thats how much data is on the stick after i have restarted the machine, and its not the full backup!

As soon as you turn on your computer tab down to the techguys recovery option then select start launch recovery option then create the back up when it fails to format the drive you can keep on trying without re starting the whole process it will fail a few times but it will eventualy format the card and create your backup.
