Our FisherPaykel dryer hums loudly and won't start on its own,?

We own a fisher paykel dryer and it just began making a humming noise when we push the start button and the drum will not turn. We can make the dryer work if we manually hand turn the drum and close the door quickly while holding down the light switch and we also checked both breakers and available voltage is at 245 volts. What is the problem? Thanks

How old is the dryer? Some of the older dryers did not have start capacitors. These models were known for the bearings in the motor wearing out or seizing up. Usually meant fitting a replacement motor as only a few places could recondition them. If it is a fairly new dryer then yes it is likely to be the start capacitor burnt out.

the bearings on the drum motor are sticking. youll need to replace the motor, the other option is the capcitor may be faulty, but its normally the bearing on the way out

capacitor that starts the motor is faulty.replace it and it should be ok
