Try using vingear (malt or white) and some water, 50% water to 50% vingear is fine. If you wish it to work quicker make it hot (ie put the kettle on) and then leave for a few hours. Remember to wash out with cold water several times and then do a couple of boils and throw the water away (or use to clean your sink and drain - I use washing soda for this, and it saves wasting the hot water!!)

Try using the tablets that people with dentures use, to de-scale the kettle. These tablets are not too harsh or they would not be on sale for denture cleaning. One tablet in a freshly boiled kettle of hot water, left standing for 3 - 4 hours works a treat.
