If it`s just the plastic knob that`s faulty,it should be cheap enough to source a new one.However if it`s the tap assembly,by the time you get a new one and get an engineer to dismantle the hob ,fit it,then reassemble and test.You could easily be looking at 2 to 3 hours labour and the price of the part.
I seldom repair hobs these days,they`re so cheap it`s just as easy to replace.
Of coarse it`s possible,just possible that it might be a 15 job to fix.
Get a reputable Corgi Engineer round(one who is qualified to work on cookers) and see what he says.
Don`t get British Gas round,they`ll tell you ,you need a new boiler;p
