Ford Courier 1.8 deisel - fuel pump leak - can't see source - within pump ?

Leaks from within pump housing - Mechanic says need to strip out and replace unit with reconditioned item, inc labour = £500 to £600 - can't do that. Any Ideas - what's Sikkaflex (black) ? How would I use that?
