Fiesta 1.4 Zetec (2003) misfire and other things?

First problem - It misfires briefly when accelerating under load from about 1500 rpm. Lumpy ride accelerating at 30mph in 5th. Has been like this for some time. Then the speedo stopped working for a second or two and does this from time to time. Now the engine management light is on and it went into limp mode with EAC showing on the odometer. Re- started and it drove normally. Only done 41000 miles from new. What is the most likely cause? The misfire was cured briefly about a year ago when under warranty but returned and gradually got worse.

ford have very common problems with the coil packs on these vehicles and others. the other problem could be the spark plugs tracking back most people replace the plugs but as a result of them tracking back it can damage the ht leads, so if you replace just the plugs the ht leads will propably damage the new plugs so it is reccommenged that both plugs and ht leads are replaced. this is due to the spark plugs being recessed and moisture lying in. ford have a special grease to help prevent this
