mondeo estate 1995 lx 1.8 diesel turbo (none starter)?

This mondeo is a sluggish starter, use to run well when up and running, recently run out out of diesel and car when re filled wouldnt restart, garge fitted new fuel filter and it seem to fix the problem, since then it over heated but didnt ever reach the red zone on clock but 3/4,the mondeo then cut out and hasnt started since, any ideas as into what i can try to start this vechile again, some say the vechile may hold a safty cut out device on it if so where is this device as im wondering now if this kicked in when car got hot due to a rad leak.

Theres not a switch as such. Its a solenoid inside the pump on these diesels.

Have you checked the fuel pump belt, bleed the fuel up and replaced the plugs?

Is there any exhaust smoke when trying to start?

Possible head or cylinder crack or gasket failure?

The safety cut out switch only operates in a colision to stall the engine. If the engine has got hot then you can burn the heater plugs, if so replace all of them. Try bleeding the fuel system, although these are self bleed they sometimes need a hand. Have you got full compression? If not then the overheating could have warped the head.

It sounds like glow plug failure to me.
