fuel in sump BMC 1.5 diesel?

I have a 1.5 BMC diesel engin in a narrow boat and fuel is geting into the sump is it posible that the injecter pump could be the cause ?
the injectors are ok ie no smoke

could be a head problem

could be,i have same prob on mine.if you remove the injector pump by undoing in this order 1,the throttle/stop cable 2,the feed and return pipes on the fuel filter 3,the 4 pipes that go to the injectors(undo at injectors) 4,3 bolts that hold the pump to the block
when you have the pump off you will see the drive spline.now see if the spline will move from side to side/up and down. if it does chances are that the bearing/seal is worn also you might see fuel leaking out when you spin the spline if this is the case you will need to get it fixed (DO NOT ATEMPT THIS YOURSELF)refitting is the reverse but dont tighten the 3 bolts up till you have set the timing, very easy,on the pump spacer is an arrow match this up with the line on the pump flange and tighten the bolts.
hope this helps

i have the same on a perkins 4.108...i recently changed the lift pump and am sincerely hoping this is faulty and letting fuel into the crankcase via the mounting...pity really cause it runs sweet

could be lift pump diaphragm u/s and allowing fuel to enter crankcase!
