How do I know whats wrong with my Ford ka heater?

My Ford Ka 2000 heater seems to be broken. It only ever blows out cold air. What might be the problem and could someone give me advice to fix this please, as its like driving a little ice box at the moment!!

there is a control valve under the bonnet in the heater pipes that needs replacing( i have fitted many of these) that will cure the cold heater problem.
