Poor starter in cold?

I have a 1988 ford cargo 0811 which will not start in cold weather, Does anyone know what sort of cold start facility this model is suppose to have, It does not have any glowplugs on like other diesels i have seen. Also does anyone have or know where i can get a workshop manual for this model. Any information very welcome.

If it had a cold start system, it would consist of a thermostart element screwed in to the intake manifold and supplied with fuel via pipe from the injector pump gallery. There would also be a thermostart button in the cab.
Just tilt the cab and look at the intake manifold and it should be clear whether it's there or not.

Re - the cold start. Check the air filter - make sure it's clean. Check the water separator/pre-filter -make sure the element is not clogged up.
