How can I fix our K40 ice making machine?

Our K40 whirlpool icemaker does not stop making ice resulting in ice collecting above cuber grill.Only solution is to switch off when ice collection container is nearly full and switching back on when nearly empty.
Note:- the cubing grid has a repair too one of the grid wires, could this be a contributory factor.
Any ideas ?

Hi Bob, Your unit has a seperate thermostat for the ice bin. It is located at the rear and will have a winter and summer position.
With ice cubes covering the sensor located in the bin, after a minute turn the thermostat back to the summer(warmest cut out ) untill the unit stops, then remove cubes and place a warm hand on the sensor. The unit should kick back on. Cover with cubes and it should cut out.
If the unit will not funtion as above you need a new stat.
