louise, September 2010
they are not broken

this is the saftey feature

it means that it is too cold, and if the ghds were to be turned on it would damage the insides of it or something lol

there is more info in the manual

Tried to switch on my GHD straightners and light won't come on??

Foz Khan, February 2010
That is supposed to happen because it means they are ready to use as they are heated up. It does that on mine too!

this morning i put my ghds on the light came on then went off checked fuse its not that any ideas?

You can buy a lead for about £10.
Close the straighteners and tape together.
There's a rubber band by the flex, roll it off.
Loosen two small screws with a fine crosshead screwdriver and remove the flex holder.
Simply pull out the whole flex from the circuit board and replace with new one.
Put the appliance back together and you're good....till the next time.....it's a common fault on these.

Mine do the same thing. But found out it's a function that when it's too cold they don't heat up because it can crack plates.

Beca, July 2009

they're supposed to do that, it indicates that they are at the correct temperature. :-S

my ghd just out of warranty and stopped working while using, checked the fuse and plugged back in and red light came on for a few mins then went again, before I go and spend £120.00 -reply for Brett might do the trick - how do I get into the plate to check out?

anne tavendale, November 2007
After a quick fix for the Mrs's straighteners I found a faulty 2amp 230VAC axial fuse located underneath one of the ceramic plates. If no power when the mains is appliied try checking this is not open circuit. :) Easy fix

The light is supposed to flicker. This indicates they are at the correct temperature. Not sure about the noise though

I haven't had my GHD's long, way less than a year anyway! The other day, the little red light started flickering on and off, then gradually they just more or less went off. So i went to my hairdressers and they told me to send them off to the company or whatever. So yesterday, I sent them off, with a note saying what was wrong with them. I haven't heard anything yet obviously, but hope to soon. I can't live without them, and I hate going to school without straightening my hair with GHD's. Does anyone know what is going to happen from here, or has experienced this themselves?

Please e-mail me and let me know. Thanks: Soccermadamy7@aol.com

on my wifes one it was a poor connection to the element. same symptoms. light would come on and then go off just after it started flashing. or the light would go off when you clamped the irons together. The connection has broken about 3mm away from the element, so ideally it needs a new element. you can replace it yourself with a medium screwdriver and a fine screwdriver. pop off the round side caps (use a pick or a small flatblade driver.) undo the bigish philips screws and push the shaft through. Pull the two ends away from each other. WATCH OUT FOR THE SPRING. it's designed to sit one way and not the other. undo every casing screw you can find and pull it to bits. hopefully that's it :-)

poor mains connection (usually input to tongs or damaged wire by twisting). The noise heard will be the bad connection sparking and generating heat in the break (may end up with the opposite hair type).
