how can I fix my phone?

I have a Geemarc Aloha phone, which because of its shape and colour, I wish to keep. Unfortunately when I receive a call or wish to make one I have to wait for the dailing tone until the black lever (don't know the correct terminology) beneath the handset releases. It can be pulled up by the fingers , but would like your advice on how to get it working properly again. Thanks.

I have inherited a blue Geemarc cordless phone and wonder if you could explain what the initials stand for as I dont have the instruction manual and feel I may be missing out!

This refers UK old style converted dial phones.

Sounds like the springs have weakend or dirt has built up around the line on/off bar. From description is it the old dial type ? if so one screw at back hold case on undo screw rais back of case easing it over dial. clean up around bar and check springing while case off. If still week you have to find new ones and replace them don't know how but you should see.
clean case as well. If plug in remove plug from line socket before removing back.
