how to set a new code on the melcom st6000 without having the old code

when you open the alarm panel you will see a pin in the right and side put the pin in the prongs then power up the alarm then power down the alarm then take the pin out the power up the alarm then enter 1234 then put the lid on and press program 1234 and 8 1234 led r on then enter your new code then press reset
"tried this , the alarm gose off, i follow the next steps but nothink works" any more ideas i cud try ?
