i.LINK connection error to the Handycam?

When I connect my Handycam to the forewire card port with the firewire cable it launches a Import from Handycam moniter but I keep getting the message "Cannot find the Handycam (Tape). Check the i.LINK connection to the Handycam." I've tried using Windows MovieMaker and get this message "Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on." I verified that it was. Any suggestions?

I had this problem. I'm assuming that you are trying to connect via a USB connection. This didn't work with my Sony (same model) so I had to install a firewire connection and it worked first time. There should be a firewire socket on your computer unless it is very old, then you may need to add a firewire card to your main board in the computer. I hope that helps.
