couple of things to look at....
firstly, is the washing comming out very wet, or like it should (ie damp)? if the drain pump is faulty, the machine will not finish the final rinse (softener rinse).
secondly, is the drum turning correctly? if the drum doesnt spin properly, the excess water in the drum may prevent the last rinse and spin.
finally, the softner is syphoned out, rather than pumped or drained. if the water level doesnt change in the softner part of the drawer, then it can never come out of the drawer. this is achieved with a water solenoid putting water into the drawer, and it may be likely that this solenoid is your problem.
there are a few things to start with. hopefully its one of these problems
