Peugeot 206 1.1 (51 Plate) speedo/mileometer failure?

I have spent the last 1.5 years trying to fix my broken speedo/milometer, Peugeot have replaced the ECU, Dials, Loom, speedo sensor etc, and downloaded various updates to the ECU etc with no effect. The ECU does not record any error codes for the speedo. It does occasionaly work for a few minuets, then will pack up again for weeks at a time!! I have read on the net that a plastic speedo drive cog could be the cause, but if this was broken, surely it would be a permanent fault and not intermittant? I also have an Engine management light that, again, flashes intermittantly. Any ideas?!

ive got the same problem and ive changed the complete sender unit (including plastic cog) on the diff but that made no difference and then i changed the instrument cluster for one that i know is working but that made no difference. my rev counter and speedo just sit at zero and flicker with a relay type sound when i turn off my ignition. any other ideas?

I too have the same problem and yes is is a plastic cog on the speedo sender unit located on the gearbox, at first it was only occasionally not working then it got worse until it didnt work at all, I removed the unit and the white plastic cog had worn down. still not fixed it but im positive thats the problem.
