I have a sour smell coming from washing machine?

I have an Admiral 20 pound capacity washing machine - model #LATA400AA. There is a sour smell that is coming from my machine. Even after I have washed my clothes, they seem to have that funny smell as well. My machine is at least 10 years old. Can I do something to fix this problem or should I be looking for a new machine?

Run your washer without any washload at full cycle, high water level, with perhaps 6 cups or more of LIQUID chlorine bleach at the beginning of the wash cycle. Once entire cycle is completed, leave the lid open for several hours before the next actual wash so the air can kill any residual odor-producing bacteria. It's usually good practice to routinely leave the lid open for at least four hours after each washday session for this reason.
