Ford Focus heater takes too long?

X-Reg 2001 Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia. It seems to take at least 20 minutes for the heater to blow out hot air. I have noticed the engine temperature also takes along time to get to it's normal operating temperature. (by normal I mean the needle on the temperature gauge in the middle of the dial.)

Could this be the reason for the heater taking so long? If so what things do I need to check to fix it?

The Coolant levels appear to be fine.

Can anyone help?

Yes the temp gauge is the temp going thtu your heater also ...might trying to change the thermostat....I had same problem with my s10 because I had only 4 miles to drive to work and found a block heater for it ....simple to install ..just had to put it where a freeze plug was and plug it in at night and when I cranked it up it was already operating temp and heat was there as soon as I turned it on ..great invention.
