The handke on my Oreck XL upright will not stay in the upright position, How do I fix it?

Usually the small metal (sometimes plastic) piece in the middle of the bottom plate comes out of place or wears. Take off the bottom plate (5 screws holding it on) and look on the inside surface to see what happened.
