Hi,

I hav a sony HC 51DV camcorder. It was working with PC, but it does not recognise it anymore. It is connected via a Firewire cable and I am running Vista. I was told maybe added a program to my PC and this affected it but I cannot find any new programs added.

Hi Andy,

Sent mine back to be repaired. Had to replace something internally, I would say def something Vista is doing to the camera. Working fine since I got it back.

Thanks Andy, for your help. I rang sony and they advised it was more than likely a software upgrade I did, but I dont think it is. Def the Camcorder. Tried it on my laptop, running xp and that doesnt work. Also tried it on another PC running xp,using my firewire card and no luck.

Going to send it back to Sony. Will let you know the outcome.

Same thing has just happened to my HC19E, worked for two hours worth of tape onto the computer via firewire cable then suddenly it was no longer being recognised. I too have windows vista. Just been to PC world where they told me it was definitely the camcorder and not the computer as we tried the camcorder on their computers and it wasn't picked up. Strange that they work initially then stop - maybe vista is corrupting the camcorders?? If anyone has the answer I'd love to know before I send my camcorder away to be fixed!
