I have a 1999 Ford Mondeo Auto LX and need to replace the cigarette lighter and would appreciate any guidance on how to get the old one out and how to insert the new one.
You need a length of string 2ft is plenty you'll see why in a minute.
I am only geussing on this you could check with a local Ford dealers worshop, small job like that they wont want and will give you free advice if you're unsure about the following or wait for further replies.
Have found nothing in my Modeo manual so assume they are pushfits like I've had in other cars.
Carefully prise it out working around the rim.
Remove the earth wire first then the live on the end wrap the string around the wires about six wraps to be safe then tie slip knot around the steering wheel. Why? to stop the wires if short from springing back into the hole because there buggers to get back out.
Replacing new Fit LIVE wire first followed by the neutral/earth wire Reason? If you fit the earth first and happen to short out the live on the casing flash bank fuses gone. So remember always remove earth first. and alway replace LIVE first that includes the battery.
