My John Deere L111 will not start?

I have a new battery in it, but it just clicks a bunch when I turn the key

sound like the start is bad

on that model, i believe the ground cable is bolted to the frame behind the engine and is a poor ground. i have moved the ground to the engine block and seems to work. also on a briggs over head valve engine, the valves get out of adjustment and dont allow the compression release to work, starter clicks but cannot turn motor past compression. might have to set valve clearance.

Agreed - or possibly a bad solenoid.

Check the cables. Likely to be a bad motor to battery connection, or bad ground cable.
