Brake lights come on when you put your foot on the pedal, there are two methods of operation. A hydraulic swith in the brake line (not quite so common now) or a mechanical switch usually found on the brake pedal lever. So you will have to stick your head up under the pedals to locate it, once you have spotted it it's operation is quite simple to understand. When you put your foot on the pedal the contacts in the switch touch and the lights come on. Easy to replace if faulty. Happy hunting
