Peugeot 206 rear brake drum problem?

My Peugeot 206 rear brake drum wouldn't come off. The garage spent 45 minutes on it and broke their equipment. They couldn't tell me what to do next. Would a franchise garage do any better? My MOT is due soon and was told it may not pass if the brakes needing doing.

It might be that it needs a hydraulic press on it, because the hub houses the bearing and bearing can often be super tight. It could also be that the shoes are rust 'welded' onto the hub, but not so likely if you've been driving it. I would try another garage, with proper equipment. If all else fails they will have to grind them off. It's a drag, but don't despair. if man made it, man can fix it!

ive just had the same problem, the handbrake lever seized on the shoe, you will no this as the handbrake lever is in the roof, slacken the handbrake cable and then go to the wheel and look through the wheel stud hole and pry back the lever.job done.

ive got a 306 and 205 . it is a case of persistance and knlwing wat there doin i would try a diferent garage may be quick fit as they do breaks now , be prepared to have new weel bearings as there built into the drums. i would go to a small local garage first and have them roler test the rear breaks first ,mite not charge much may not be faulty anyway.

Hi,my advice find another garage.
It does,nt have to be a main dealer.
I see this a lot,the drums get a big lip on them and wont come off,i normally cut them off with an angle grinder means new drum though, but by the sounds of it your going to need it anyway.

ive seen this problem twice before, and theres no easy solution. you will have to take it to a garage and ask them to try and take it off. it may be that the axle has to be replaced with one from a breakers yard thats not seized.
