There are two plastic clips on back of top. I popped them out of the top, but could not budge the top. There are two metal latches in the front of the top, but no way to depress or shift them from the outside (as far as I can tell anyway). I have loosened and layed back the control panel part and still see no way to release the top.

unplug the machine ! first ;

the clips are about an inch wide , typically -

and face out , to the front ; a butter knife

is adequate to force these clips back , and

release each side ( 2 , usually ) with a click

letting you know the top may be lifted with

small effort - you may not be able to see them

even with a light , but may be 3 to 4 inches

away from the front edges ( to the center ) ;

the top may be heavier than expected , so

provide some support as you tilt it back ;

The top of the washer comes off by pushing in on the two metal clips with a putty knife in the front of the washer and then lifting.
