how to install one piece shower stall drain?

I recently purchsed my home and noticed that the one piece shower stall in my basement has been leaking for years. I had to remove walls and remove the whole shower just to access the drain fixture that had been attached from the bottom prior to installing the shower.
I have purchsed a new one piece shower and need to know before I install it if I can install a drain that can screw into the ABS drain pipe. I have cut away some of the drain pipe to reposition for the new shower. I stopped by the local Home Depot but found nothing I liked, all fixtures had to be glued in place.
Can I plumb the drain with a threded fitting so that I can position the shower in place then install the drain? I would like to be able to just replace the drain assyembly if it were to leak again, not the walls and shower like I am now. it seems costly just to repair a drain leak. I have no access to the bottom of the shower after installed because it is in the basement.
