fault code f08 and f10 on a hotpoint ctd80?

does anyone have fault codes
tom, December 2005
I had a fault of f10 so looking at the element it was damaged, and did a multimeter test on the 3 thermostats, which was also broke. I changed the heater and stats to find it is still not working, there is no reset button. Very puzzled and annoyed, please help, hotpoint ctd80g dryer

John lloyd, November 2015
I have fault code F-07 but when I look it up it states there is no f07 ? Anyone ? Lol I had the f10 originally and done the pin reset just wondering if this has in some way contributed thanks.

Pips, June 2015
Had the F 08 & F 10 faults appear quick google turned up this website

Took top and sides off the machine gave it a good hoover out then pushed the pin into the little hole as suggested above reassembled and hey presto Bob is a close relative

been running 10-15 mins now and all still good thanks to all posters above for the help

Graham Tinkler, November 2012
Hi, This is not a cure but might stop the thermostats tripping again. I had the thermostat trip problems a few times. I then decided to plug the dryer into an RCD then into the wall socket. The RCD trips before the thermostat does. Let it cool down then just reset the RCD. No more pulling the machine apart.

Simon A., October 2012
F10 flashing, so took the back off and did the pin prick in the thermostat, sorted. I then put a load on the 20 mins or so later, F10 starts flashing again. Do the whole process again, clean filter, and the water condenser thingy and the thing at the bottom left hand side of the machine. Now its saying F-8- Pump fault. To be honest, I have noticed water coming from the bottom of the machine. I guess thats the fault for tripping the thermostat in the first place? Any ideas what I need to do without spending a fortune?

Teresa Smy, March 2012
Thanks James, your advice still works ! Saves us a pretty penny>

Karen Walsh, January 2012
F-10 flashing. Can you please advise

Alison, January 2012
my hotpoint ultima tumble dryer is displaying f10 and wont dry please help to solve this problem

katherine, January 2012
Brilliant fix, many thanks for the advice. In my case, the drum had got stuck so the hot air was not circulating which tripped the stat. Took the opportunity to strip the top & sides off, vac out all the 5 years worth of fluff and lubricate where I could. Probably in need of some new bearings but it'll do for now.
Thanks again.

Mark, December 2011
Hi, can anyone help me? we have had the same problem with the f08 and f10 fault, we took the back off and reset and worked fine then it just happens again and again and now it just tripps the electric, its driving me mad such an ordeal to keep pulling out and taking apart, thinking off just getting rid of it. can anyone help me?

michelle, November 2011

ajit leicester uk, September 2011
F-10 problem fixed in minutes...really thought my machine was a goner this time...but now is up and running again!

Sasha, June 2011
I hope someone can help. I have a hotpoint ctd80. It has an error message f08. I have tried taking back off and Resetting, but this still appears. Many thanks

Rms, June 2011
I've had the F-10 problem and the dryer has been out of service for six months. Fixed it in ten minutes following these instructions. Mine has three black components (think all three were thermostats) above the heating element. They are a similar diameter to a penny. The one on the left had a hole in the centre of it and after inserting a thin nail there was a loud click. Works like magic.

Chris, June 2011
Just fixed my dryer following your instructions. Worked a treat!! Thanks James and all other advisers. Wish I'd seen the one about magnetic screwdriver a bit sooner as lost one down between the floorboards!!!!

SDJ, January 2011

Steve, March 2010
Fantastic answer! We were on the verge of buying a new dryer as it kept flashing with an error message F-08/10. We had tried everything to get it working again, but to no avail. We followed the instructions posted on here, and fingers crossed its working again! Its saved us £300, thank you so much

Emma, March 2010
Thanks ever so much for this advice. The description was a bit hazey but we got there in the end. I priced the parts up on hotpint website and for a full thermostat pack it was £29.99 plus £5.95 p&P.

katvonp, February 2010
Thanks for the pin in the thermostat answer for the F10 fault code. Included your text so that it appears further up the answer board:-
Not sure about F8 but F10 probably means the thermostat has tripped. It's a common fault with these tumble dryers - ours has failed on at least 4 occasions now. I've discovered that it may be possible to fix it by resetting the thermostat:

Unplug the machine!
Remove the heater assembly (rear of the machine - two screws to remove the spindle cover then another half dozen screws and the heater assembly comes away).
Take out the heater - two screws hold it in.
At the top are two thermostats - a white one and a black one. The black one has a small hole in it and can be reset by pushing a pin into the hole until a 'click' noise is heard.
Reassemble, plug back in and test.
Note that even if this fixes the problem the unit will probably show F10 a few weeks later; I think it's just the way these machines are - a design fault.

If the above doesn't solve the problem then it may be worth buying replacement thermostats - a kit will include both the black and the white one and cost around £25.

hi i have the f10 flshing on my hotpoint ctd80 can you help

cally, January 2010
Spot on answers, it took about 15 mins to clear the fault and the fluff, along with a button and a pound coin, so i guess you could say, i saved and made some pennies .....wasnt quite expecting the "click" and thought i had been shot lol, but thankyou so much excellant site i will be back!

louise.l.burgin, January 2010
please can you tell me how to solve the code f-08

kev, January 2010
Thanks for the pin in the thermostat answer for the F10 fault code. With everything else that has happened this year was the last thing we wanted on New Years Eve, all sorted now.

Will, December 2009
my washer says fo8 can you please help me thankyou

mrs dunn, December 2009
(CTD80P) I had an F08 error code. I pushed a paper clip into the hole.
I didn't hear a click. I also Cleaned all the crud off the other side of the thermostats and hey presto its cleared the error and the dryer appears to be working perfectly.
GREAT ADVICE!
THANKS A LOT.
Saved me £105 call out charge from Hotpoint.

Derek, December 2009
My tumbledryer has been stood in my kitchen not working for about 2 years!!! I have 3 children and am a single parent, I work 5 days a week and now the winter is here am struggling to get all my washing dry. After deciding to google a way to fix it I came across this site.

I reset the thermostat with a pin like you said and would like to thank you so so much as it is working like a dream!! so grateful to you for the advice

Tracy, November 2009
Another thanks - fixed in 20 minutes start to finish. Brilliant!

Geoff (http://www.weeklywhinge.com/), November 2009
Worked a treat. Pin in - click!

Thank you Andrew.

Simon, November 2009
Thank you for the advice about the pin. Fixed it easily which is a miracle for me. Was just about to go out and buy a new one. Shall now relax while clothes dry x

Daniel C, October 2009
Hi!Thanks for providing the fix.Mine is fixed now.

Azad, September 2009

all fault codes found here

ben, September 2009
Thanks!
To add, I cleaned out so much rubbish coins etc from underneath the filter, although the filter had been cleaned each time it was used -the bottom gets overlooked, hence the thermo trip. Will clean this now routinely

SJP, August 2009
My CTD80 was completely dead - no lights, no errors - nada! Decided to try the thermostat reset trick anyway. Instant Success! Thanks very much.
All I need to do now is remember to clean the condenser!

alfaefalkirk, August 2009
Thanks for that pin in the thermostat trick just fixed mine in about 15mins. Top info

Kevin Wynn, July 2009
I have a hotpoint CTD80 and thanks to the posted instructions I have fixed my dryer. It had a F10 fault code and I just followed the instructions and WOW! its fixed. Thanks James

Dave July 2009, July 2009
F10 code fixed in about 15mins on a VTD65. thanks great advice and spot on. Easy to fix and now working fine.
Saved me having to call out an service engineer at a cost of £100.00!

Sharon, May 2009
When you take the large metal plate off the back of the drier you will see the 4 elements (bars/coils with fins!). separate the plate from the element bracket by removing the 2 screws. there are 3 round cylinder type electrical connectors, there will be a black one with a hole (approx 2mm) poke a small pin into it and you will hear a click. This is the Bi-Metallic thermo cut out device. as it has tripped once it will have slightly weakened the "sprung contact", This may cause it to trip again a little while later. A new thermostat will be required if it keeps returning. I forgot to clean the condensor unit on a monthly basis, this, I am sure was the cause!! :)

Andrew Edgar, March 2009
i had f10 show up on my ultima drier. reset the thermostat. now after 24 hours, i have an f15 faultcode, would anyone like to tell me wot the code means, and how i can rectify it, thanks

mark reynolds, February 2009
Forgive me for being daft but what exactly do the thermostats look like ? I have something black in my hand but dont seem to be able to see anything white that resembles this so im not sure if im doing the right thing. I have the same problem and have dismantled most parts on the back but the black item I have I cant seem to see a hole in which to insert a pin, many thanks if someone can help me, kiond regards Paul.

Paul, February 2009
Cheers James (Dated September 2006)

My Hotpoint VTD65 tumble tryer started flashing up the f-08 code after I changed the belt. Thought I'd done something wrong!!!
All fixed, put back and up and running after 10 mins.

Who would of thought of sticking something in that hole to make it work.

Thanks again

Dean

James (GURU of fix it land)
My CTD 80p has F15 error code, I rest the thermostat as you described - worked for about 15 minutes. F15 has come up again - ANY IDEAS my freind?

Rick, January 2009
FIXED AS EASY AS THAT oh my god I cant believe I just fixed my HOTPOINT ULTIMA CONDENSER DRYER
my machine was showing code F10 & F8 I had got so fed up with it I had just got my daughter to help me move it to the garden..... then had the idea (once Id calmed down) to have a go fixing it myself. as nothing to loose, and No Dryers available to be delivered until after xmas.....
My dryer had 3 thermostates but only 1 hole to reset.

Thank you a million times over for this advise page Its saved my sanity and cash from a single mum xxx

Kim Kurani, December 2008
Many Many thanks - just fixed my unit too using this method.

Martin B, October 2008
Thanks James, good tip there for resetting the stat and getting it working. Saved me money

Stuart, October 2008
thanx so much for that but how do you clean out the pump?

kelly, September 2008
Followed loads of advise. Took pump apart and disconnected hoses looking blockages.... Fixed as follows: - Switch off at plug, select a different programme cycle (i.e. pre-wash), switch back on and start it. F-08 fault has now stopped and washer is working fine.

Andy S, September 2008
JAMES YOU ARE A GENIUS !!!

I fixed my CTD80 in under 15 minutes ! (fingers crossed it keeps on going - but if not I'm sure I can easily replace the thermostat with your guidance)

Paul Taylor - Hamilton, September 2008
your heater elements keep on going because you must not open the door till the dryer cools, if opens when hot your elements will burn out! as the fan stops stright away.

john, August 2008
my hotpoint works now i press the hole but did not hear the click you said about, but thanks againg it all good

john, August 2008
Mine says f-03
the dryer heats up for 30 seconds then f-03 appears and the heat turns off leavign dryer unresponsive and spinning in the opposite direction

mark, July 2008
Thanks Tom,

I did as you mentioned below for my CTD85 dryer and this seems to have rectified the F10 problem for now at least. I couldnt believe how easy this was to do myself and saved me the hassle of trying to contact hotpoint service centre to arrange for an engineer to call out and repair it.

One thing that I have learnt from this experience is to NEVER buy anything from Hotpoint again!!!!

Thanks again,

Carlos

Carlos, June 2008
Worked at treat on my CTD80. Took about twenty minutes from start to finish and saved me getting ripped off for a repair i didn't need.
Thank you

Paul Baxter, April 2008
i had an hotpoint ctd85 that triped the rcd, found the mica holding the heater elements in place was damp (beyond repair) replaced with new heater from espares now ok. prior to that i also re-soldered most of the joints on the control pcb this seemed to cure the fault codes associated with the heater relay

wildchild, April 2008
F08 is - Static heater relay with contact welded closed
F10 is - Common of heater open or one shot open

Roy harwood, April 2008
fixed mine tonight following this response. A good tip is to use a magnetic screw driver.....saves looking around the floor for the missing screws.

john, April 2008
Thanks James - Fantastic tip - I did as u said and it worked a treat my tumble is a Hotpoint VTD65.
U saved me ££££,s as I would normaly have to call an engineer - Thanks again.

Belfast Boy, March 2008
Reset thermostat as suggested thanks, working ok now. The lower air channel at the bottom front of dryer was badly polluted, removed parts and cleaned with jet washer. this was restricting air flow and probably caused heater to trip.

Tharg, March 2008
Thanks a lot James your answer solved the problem.
I was that fed up with this Hotpoint Machine having already had two heater elements fitted I was about to dump it. This model has three thermostats but only one had the tiny hole to reset. Once again thanks James.

Alan, March 2008
Many thanks for this. Managed to fix my tumble dryer at half ten last night when I had to have the kids clothes dry for the morning.
The other problem with this machine is that you must remember to clean both the filter and the condenser unit on a more regular basis than most machines - oh and hoover the back of it. Otherwise it may trip the RCB.

Jacqui, January 2008
Cheers James ,relayed the info over the phone to my brother who fixed my mums machine cheers

ian p, January 2008
Hi Tom,

James's answer worked perfectly for me. We have a CTD80G and suddenly got an F10 which meant the dryer never heated up, but just span round.

There's more like 8 or 9 screws round the heater element, but otherwise spot on - thank you James!

Tad, November 2007
Not sure about F8 but F10 probably means the thermostat has tripped. It's a common fault with these tumble dryers - ours has failed on at least 4 occasions now. I've discovered that it may be possible to fix it by resetting the thermostat:

Hi Tom,

F08= PUMP FAULT
F10= HEATER UNIT

Had these alarms every other day. Both pump & heater have been replaced on several occasions & they still appeared. Hopoint engineer gave up & ordered me a new machine.

Andy, March 2006
Hi Tom,

You may be able to get the Fault codes/Error codes you require from:
