Veritas 8 - how to stop ringing?

I disconnected my mains electricty to conduct some minor works, but this set my Veritas 8 alarm off, presumably on back-up battery, but I couldn't switch the alarm off with entering codes until I switched the mains back on and reset. Does anyone know how to stop the ringing if the mains goes off ie what if there was a power failure?
Thanks

thanks for that Acorn - but does that mean the alarm will always sound when I switch the mains off for other reasons, or will the new battery stop that happening?

Have the alarm serviced and a NEW battery in the control panel fitted.

There's nothing wrong, it's sounding because of the 2nd battery inside the sounder, as it is designed to do
