jack up the affected side and remove road wheel turn the steering on a lock (to bring the back of the affected side OUT so its easier to work on) Straighten and remove the split pin on the track rod end, that goes through the castle nut, undo the nut completely off.Now undo the larger nut that secures the track rod to the rack,THIS WILL BE TIGHT( a couple of flats only){to do this you will have to hold the track rod to prevent turning. when lock nut is FREE you now insert your BALL JOINT SPLITTER in between the track rod rubber and the steering arm strike the splitter with hammer if using a fork version ,if using the NUT version tighten the nut till joint POPS remove tool now unwind the track rod off
NOTE count the number of turns to remove the track rod end . Insert the new track rod the SAME number of turns and LOCK OFF using the big lock nut.drop the track end into the steering arm tighten the lock nut tight and till a NEW cotter pin aligns up through the holes, bend cotter tails over, refit road wheel .
For piece of mind get the tracking checked it won't be a zillion miles away
