How do I fix my cd drive?

My CD / DVD Drive is shared. It will read DVDS, but will not read any type of CD, VCD, or Data CD. When I put a cd in the drive it spins and makes a clicking noise then repeats this a few times and stops. I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC dv 1010us. I have uninstalled and installed the drive. How can I fix the problem?

try going into device manager (right-click on My Computer, properties, then right-click on C:drive). Look for any yellow or red flags, question marks or exclamation marks. Highlight it and right click then uninstall it. When it re-boots it will look to find the hardware, then the software, if you have a disk, direct it to that and install. Try it and hopefully that will solve it.
