Mower blades don't engage all the time?

I have a 42 inch craftsman lawn tractor with auto transmission. The mower blades the last several mowing attempts after about 1 hour become erractic, engaging sometimes not at all. I replaced the PTO switch on the dash and this didn't help. Would appreciate any help

Let me ask you a few questions. First you have a sears riding mower that has a PTO switch right. How old is the mower? what size motor does it have? and How do you store it when not in useage. Those type of mowers have trouble with moisture in electrical connections. Check to determand that the PTO is engageing. It runs off the motor amp field. Not the battery. Make sure all the connections are tight and free of rust. Also it may be that the PTO it's self may be going out.And if thats th case you are looking at around $300 to $500 dollars to repair. Good luck.
