Renault Kangoo 1.5 DCI central locking problem 53 plate 73000 miles ?

Just had the same problem on my 08 Kangoo van, side door wouldnt unlock. Tried playing about with magnet etc but no luck so, drilled out the rivets, cut the white wire and click the door unlocked yippeeeee! Taped the two wire ends just incase they touched, put it all back together and heh presto it locks and it unlocks, put new rivets in and checked it again and it works spot on. It will unlock and lock with the cap in or out but its a van so nobody will ever be exiting when refuelling!

Thank you. Just managed to release locked sliding door by taking off petrol cap and replacing it. Doors all opened.

Inside the panel of the sliding door - access behind the door contacts find the uppermost wire to contacts (yellow) and cut it.

That fixes door lock problem.

Remove magnet from petrol cap.

That prevents further problems.

THANKS TO ALL FOR ANSWERS!! I have a 2008 Kangoo 1.5 DCI. Last week rear sliding door by filler cap would not unlock. I took off door inside cover panel & found that pushing the stepped plastic claw in ( that moves out over the plastic end on the rod from the door lock pop-up button) allowed the button to move up & door to be opened. I thought a motor was not operating to move the claw back but working OK to move claw out to "lock" position. After reading answers giving the filler cap magnet as the cause of the problem, I tested the magnet in the angular projection in the cap with a powerful permanent magnet (got from a broken DC moving-coil milliammeter), getting a strong attraction . This must have re-magnetised the cap, because so far, it has fixed the fault. The cap magnet does not seem to care about the direction of magnetisation.

My Kangoo Van 2005 1.5dci problem was rear door not locking (only with key) and side door locked which would not open by any means.
Removed filler cap and recharged magnet by rubbing with magnet out of my tool box - hey presto all door worked like new.

I have a 56 kangoo and I'm have some real difficulties only the drivers door will work with the fob but both the drivers and passenger door work with the button inside the van (the one by the gear stick) neither the side or rear doors lock/unlock with the fob or button.

Any ideas?cheers guys

This is a good thread. I dont know anything about vans or the electrics inside them. My van has racking which partitions the front from the back so i have no way of getting to the side door at all, unless i remove my racking (which i don't want to do). is there another way i can disconnect this wire from the magnet?

Had a similar problem with Renault kangoo van ( 51 plate ) ,after a flat battery episode replaced the car battery problem solved ( for a few months ) , then central locking started self activating ,we were in the process of booking the vehicle into auto electrician ,and I realized there is a manual central locking switch ( next to the gear lever ), removed it cleaned with electrical cleaning / lubricant switch spray ,and I problem solved.

Rear door solenoid on my kangoo would keep activating all the time if car was locked or unlocked, i removed the magnet in the back of the fuel cap, problem soved, side door never locked when refueling so i imagine sensor on fuel neck is faulty.

Had the same problem with my Kangoo van 2005 plate.
Could'nt get the side door to unlock unless I kept pressing the key lock/unlock buttons took about 5 minutes to unlock it. Having read the above posts I then removed the triple striker plate from the door surround (just behind the passenger seat) and pulled the white wire from the spade end and taped it up.
replaced the striker plate unit and closed the sliding door, pressed the lock button on the key and all the doors locked except the sliding door.
I then repeated what I had done previously, replaced the white wire by pushing the spade end in place then pulled the yellow wire off the spade taped it over and put it out of the way. Replaced the striker plate, locked the door with the key button and hey presto all the doors now lock and unlock OK. Of course they are not locked when I remove the filler cap but as someone else pointed out it's a van and no one else is going to open the side door when I'm refueling.

December 2011 has it bang on . Cut the white wire behind cental locking panel ,on the left hands side of the van.
The lock finally worked. It was nerve wracking cutting the wire. The side door now works perfect. Thank you very much for posting Magnette!!

Yep, I had the same problem with my side door central locking (53 van). There is no need to remove the rear light though. Just locate the plug in connector at the central locking mdule behind the left interior side panel. Find the white cable with fine writing on it and cut it about 1.5cm from the connector (allows room for reconnection should you require it). Your problems should now be solved. The fuel cap sensor won't work anymore, but your central locking should now work correctly.

...this explains why the LH sliding door has 3 contacts and the RH only 2..... My LH door starting self locking and not opening, and had to use a screwdriver to lift the pushy thingy up, and it would disappear again later.
Last night, driving along, LH door lock clicking on and off for about 5 mins then nothing. Now doesnt work at all. Not with key or button in centre console. Will it work if I disconnect the wires to the filler cap switch (which I assume is hidden, as usual)? Is there a reset for this side as there appears to be a box inside the door which the 3 wires go into - presumably a 3-position solenoid (up, down and recessed).
(And there's me thinking the kids were messing with the central locking when I was filling up with fuel)

Had the same problem.
The side door (just in front of the petrol cap) would lock fine. However it would not unlock. Took the door apart checked everything in the door... Found this post and took the rear light cluster off. Where the loam splits a cable goes into the body work. Couldn't find a way to get to the back of the fuel filler. Drilled the rivets out in the end! Cut the wires to the magnetic relay off which has three wires! but only two wires are connected. Isolated the two wires (one black and one white) Door now unlocks and locks. Looking at the magnetic relay there is a small crack with a small amount of rust so I guess that it failed. If you have the same problem assuming that ever thing else is OK (i.e. rear door opens with the remote) remove the light cluster and cut one of the wires. Make sure you don't cut the wires for the light cluster!

i have a 56 kangoo van. had same problem when my van was only 6 months old (bought new). rennault put a new loom in inc. lock, been fine till a couple of months ago ( van now 3.5 yrs old) , where it doesn't lock when u open fuel cap, but otherwise works fine ( i.e. unlocks every time). i think the wiring in renaults generally is just crap, and won't be buying 1 again.

My '56 Nissan Kubistar is the same too! The Nissan is a Kangoo when you scratch the surface not too deeply. The filler cap sensor. How do I remove that to replace/remove/check? Thanks

I know this thread is a bit old but..... I've had the same problem with the side door lock jammed. I've just had the petrol cap sensor disconnected (FOC - I couldn't believe it!) and now the door works fine. Obviously the door doesn't lock when I remove the petrol cap anymore but it doesn't matter in a van. Hope this info helps someone else

My 56 Kangoo van is doing the same, side door will not open, I have tried everything with no luck. I can open the door if I remove the side door trim and slide the catch in a way that lets me lift the door knob, but the door self locks everytime I slam the door shut.
I do think the problem is with the magnetic switch, and I am trying to find a way of testing the magnet on the fuel filler cap.

Similar problem.
I think its something to do with the auto lock sensor in the fuel cap that automatically locks passenger side door when filling petrol. Mine is doing the same and seems to be permanently locked. Mechanic once suggested removing sensor completely.
(Obviously there as safety feature so passenger can not open rear sliding door and hit fueling nossle while filling)
