He may be right - it may indeed be the switch - but I can't imagine a manufacturer not having a fuse for the reversing lamp - after all German regulations probably insist on all lights being fused - may be different in France...
On my VW Golf the reversing light fuse is 10A (F7) seems to be shared with the speed sender circuit.

There isnt one I dont think, The reverse light switch normally goes an it sits on top of gear box, This dosnt run threw fusebox i dont think. Id get a new reverse light switch
