the grill only works on high, when i turn it down the whole thing goes off, the ceramic plates went off as well once or twice

I would suspect the control. I have problems with the control on my sovereign. However, I haven't yet worked out how to get at teh control. The knob comes off easily enough and I have undone all the screws from the underneath to get at the controls but nothing moves.
