How can my washing machine be fixed (Ariston Margherita 2000)?

We have a Ariston Margherita 2000,the problem is the program dial keeps spinning around once it is switched on, can you help/

Mine is the same however counting the LED flashes doesnt work. i was given that tip by a repair man also but he did say it is a fault that consistently happens with this model usually once it reaches 3 years old.
