I have a 1992 Ford Iveco Cargo 0813, Very smokey on startup?

I have a 1992 Ford Iveco Cargo 0813, the mileage says 50500 Km, it runs beautifully, but on startup, it is Very smokey and I mean VERY. The smoke is mostly grey in colour, though when it's cold outside, it's difficult to tell as it may be bluish! When warm, the smoke practically disappears but I do notice the smoke when going up hills. I tried cleaning the injectors with diesel additive via the diesel tanks but to no avail. I have since been told that perhaps I should have the injectors 'crack tested'. This sounds like an expensive job and not really a job I could do myself. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, i have 2 cargo and just sold a horsebox, they all smoked on start up, if its gray in colour then its sounds like unburnt diesel, some cargo have pre heat on, my old G plate horsebox didnt and that always started but it smoked when it was turning over and when it first started for around 5 mins while the air built up, i replaced the air filtter and diesel filtter and it made no diffrence it went for the mot and it passed on the first emissions test, it always did around 20 mpg, so if yours is ok on mpg and passed the mot i wouldnt worry to much about it, after all it is 17 years old.
