Stihl chainsaw won"t start?

I have a stihl 028 chainsaw that will not start unless I pour a little gas in sparkplug hole then it only runs until the gas runs out of the plug hole what might be my problem?

fuel pipe has pin holes in it or filter in tank is blocked

Sounds like a fuel problem.
make sure fuel is clean and correct mix.
check the fuel pick up is clean
failing that remove the carb and strip, you sould find a gauze inisde, which may be dirty. also check the needle is clean.
good luck

If it's been standing for in excess of 8 weeks with fuel in the system then it's most likely to be stale fuel at best or a varnished/gummed carb due to the stale fuel degenerating back to it's raw state.

You can remove the carb and attempt to clean the jets etc of the carb with a proprietry aerosol carb spray, or alternatively get it ultrasonically cleaned- which is the better option. Whilst you have it stripped it's also worth replacing the diaphragms.

I would look for a defective fuel hose. These will harden and crack after years of service. The 028 has been around for several years.
