Steering trouble on my JD 68?

I'm have trouble steering my John Deere 68 Riding Mower it seems like the gear are not linking all of the time when I turn the steering wheel the front wheels don't respond.

My question is , is there any kind of an alignment where the gears are or is there a bearing /sleeve that should be replaced .

Not sure what kind of steering system they used on yours. but, pull the battery out, and look under the battery box/plate and follow the steering shaft down , some are a gear and some are just a rubber plate . On the gear ones there is a bushing and an adjustment , the plate ones , weel you have to see if that is the problem or it lies somewhere else
